Competition for Light Affects Alfalfa Biomass Production More Than Its Nutritive Value in an Olive-Based Alley-Cropping System

چکیده

Cropping among trees with perennial legumes is one option for increasing agro-ecosystem services, such as improving the nitrogen supply and soil protection by herbaceous vegetation. Moreover, cropping under canopy of olive should diversify farm production, compared to traditional fallow management. Among legumes, alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) produces abundant biomass Mediterranean rainfed condition. Based on this, a two-year field experiment was implemented in southern Tuscany orchard test competition light effects production nutritive value. Light availability tree measured hemispherical photos. In both years, yield under-canopy varied according presence. A significant relationship between recorded. The value similar that open-grown alfalfa. However, same differences did however occur, shaded sole crop. When were found, herbage characterised higher content crude protein lower fibre respect open-grown. hilly silvoarable orchard, accumulation reduced mainly due scarce availability, therefore management pruning plantation layout can enhance productivity. Studying shade tolerant forage order agroforestry systems essential.

Maize Production and Soil Properties Change in Alley Cropping System at Different Nitrogen Levels

Productivity of maize and soil properties change under alley cropping system consisting of four woody species (Gliricidia sepium, Leucaena leucocephala, Cajanus cajan and Senna siamea) at different nitrogen levels (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100% of recommended rate) were studied in the floodplain ecosystem of Bangladesh. Comparative growth performance of four woody species after pruning showed that L. ...

Inoculant effects on alfalfa silage: fermentation products and nutritive value.

The effect of 14 microbial inoculants on the fermentation and nutritive value of alfalfa silages was studied under laboratory conditions. The first cut (477 g of dry matter/kg) and second cut (393 g of dry matter/kg) of a second-year alfalfa stand were ensiled in 2 trials. In both trials alfalfa was harvested with standard field equipment. All inoculants were applied at 1.0 x 10(6) cfu/g of cro...

Interactions among leguminous trees, crops and weeds in a no-till alley cropping system

Trees improve the soil quality and their rapid growth in the tropics make agroforestry systems potentially effective for establishing low-input agricultural systems in this region. This study assessed the effects of the biophysical interactions among leguminous trees, weeds, cotton and maize in an alley cropping system. The experiment comprised six treatments: Clitoria + Gliricidia; Acacia ...

An ecological based sustainability assessing system for cropping system

The assessment of sustainability in cropping system is an important issue for natural resources management and environmental protection. Incorporating the geographical information system (GIS) and remote sensing (RS) technologies, an initial idea of the crop sustainability assessing system was thus proposed, based on ecosystem services value (ESV) assessing criterions. The system is basically c...

Light - Much More Than Vision

A brief overview of the impact of light on the circadian system is given, which underscores the importance of developing a framework for circadian photometry. The amount of light, its spectral composition, spatial distribution, timing and duration needed for vision is so different from that needed for circadian functioning, that generalizations about “good lighting” will have to be assessed by ...
